Since late February 2021, Change by Design has been hard at work on behalf of a large Florida non-profit based in Jacksonville, Florida. One of the client’s main workforce issues has been an increasing lack of skills or mismatch of skills to the underlying culture of the organization. Business acumen and dealing with ambiguity are the hallmarks of many professionals, so correcting these cultural competency issues has become a major priority.

To start the project off, Change by Design spent a couple of weeks with the non-profit organization in one-on-one interviews with key performers. After better understanding the perspectives of these key team members on cultural competency issues, we proceeded to develop nearly four hours of eLearning in storyboard format.

This solution was designed to help resolve another challenge for this organization, namely, the institutionalization of their culture upon the competencies most desired by leadership. After a month, we delivered a cultural competency-focused performance evaluation system, along with specifications on how to implement that system to successfully build a sustainable culture. The client is also integrating the custom definitions and features of each competency within their hiring decisions going forward. Change by Design is now moving on into the second part of this engagement:

  • building the framework for a journey-based curriculum for six of the major roles in the organization

  • designing the organization’s 90-day staff onboarding training

As the project continues to progress, we’ll keep you posted on developments. Stay tuned for more!
